Chris on CNN

Hey, I’m on the CNN website. They wanted to have a foreigners view on Moscow. I’ve said some bad things about the city as well, but when shortening the article they must have cut them out. Well, better than the usual Russia bashing in the foreign media.
Anyway, read yourself (on CNN):

Who da fuck is Ja’bagh?

You may have seen this dark looking guy in front of Propagandas door on Fridays, when they had the famous New Rave parties last year. You may have seen him hanging out at one of our Labelfucker parties and you may have experienced his charm (I’m being sarcastic) at our last LF Party, where he did the face control and guest-list check. Who is this guy with the American accent. East Coast Baby! East Cost! Straight outta New York, ya know na mean?

It has been a while since I first met Zak and Ja’bagh two New Yorkers from Caucasian decent, who live in Moscow as long as I am here. Zak and Ja’bagh run a photostudio and a production company. They mainly do work for advertising nowadays, but like me they ventured out and started some alternatives to posh Moscow nightlife. We have a lot in common and so we became friends over the past year.

Ja’bagh worked on a photo book showing the young and alternative people who are the “new other side of Moscow’s nightlife. They are crazy, they are creative, they have tattoos and they are anything else than mainstream, which they often consider an offense. Ja’baghs book is a must see for everyone who is interested on the other side of Moscow. Wherever there is a mainstream there is an underground movement and the stronger the mainstream, the stronger the underground. Ja’bagh has portrait that underground. This once again makes him someone who sticks out of the normal and it shows his creativity and his ability to work off the beaten cliques of Russia and Moscow. Moreover it makes him someone with a feeling for what’s going on in this ever changing metropolis and its sub-cultures.

Ja’bagh started out with art and fashion photography shooting editorials for Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan and many others. Then he started shooting commercials and major ad campaigns. His book is going back to the roots of it all, ART. The book is dedicated to Moscow, the city that gave him to grow and develop with her. Its also dedicated to the people who like to think outside the box and who are out of the mainstream.

You can get Ja’baghs book in most Moscow bookstores from next week on. ass on the word. This may be interesting for other people as well.

Dyagilev burnt down

The Roof The Roof The Roof is on fire ...
Photo: Vesti.ru

The Roof. The Roof. The Roof is on fire, was a rap club classic in the 80s, often copied and reworked. What was a hit once became reality in Moscow. The cities famous club and oligarch (plus expat) hangout, Dyagilev burned down to the walls yesterday. A fire department spokesperson said on TV that the source of the fire is unclear. It may have been welding works (as usual in these cases) or someone lit the club on purpose. He also said that it is strange that the emergency services were notified so late. The fire-engines were on scene within 3 minutes, but the alarm came way to late to secure the building.

Did I mention that the owners and promoters of Dyagilev opened a new club in the past weeks? The inofficial opening night was only a week and a half ago. Yep, probably you think what I think. Crazy Moscow. Well, at least the Dyagilev crowd has a place to move on to…

Well, I heard, suspected Labelfucker Donald Tursman was seen there with some lads just recently and that may have damaged the clubs (otherwise strict) door policy and image so much, that there was no other way than burning it down. Hopefully the same doesn’t happen to Simachevs, where I recently had a few (too many) drinks with Mr.Tursman before I got kicked out. Punk!

Labelfucker (Episode III)

We had another Labelfucker Party last Friday. While we are sill processing the photos, we have the first video from the party already. It was a good party and for a the short time of Friday night we felt not being in Moscow, but in a New York style loft. Not only the loft was something different for Moscow, but also the people. There was a multi-culti mix with people from all over the world.

At one point the DJ stopped and some people feared the police ending the party at last time, but it was the highlight of the night, The Tipy a Russian Rock n Roll band that kicks ass.

More about Labelfucker and photos (coming up this week) from this party and the last on:

A big THANK YOU to anyone who made this party possible!

Tactics @ Labelfucker II
Mr. Tactics @ Labelfucker II

What? You are still hanging out at Krisha, Most or Dyagilev? Well, you think you are cool, if you make it into Simachevs, Gazgolder or Solyanka? Have you been at a Labelfucker house party already? Try that baby! http://www.labelfucker.ru

Don’t get me wrong. I love Solyanka and I really dig Simachevs, especially the food.
