There are a few spots on this planet that I like. My favourite is on Tenerife, an island on the archipelago of the Canary Islands a bit West of North Africa in the Atlantic. The islands are volcanic and pretty touristy, but if you know your way you can find places far away from the touristy path. Well sometimes not so far, but still away. So I had different spots on Tenerife where you could sit on some lava rock and watch the sunset seeing the neighbouring islands laying in the Atlantic below you.
These photos was taken from my favourite spot. Yes its my favourite spot in the whole wide world and alone this spot makes me visit Tenerife (where I used to live) again and again, because for me its the most beautiful spot on this planet. About 2200m above sea level, up on Teide in the Canadas National Park, you are watching the sunset in the West. On the right side you have the island La Palma and on the left La Gomera. I smoke a joint, drink some wine or beer and just let my mind flow. The sun falls into the ocean in the West and it gets darker and darker. The sky paints a long gradient from red to blue to black. After a while the stars come out and in this height, in the middle of the Atlantic, its usually crystal clear. I never saw the milky way like this before and each time I am up there I am surprised again. So many stars. Millions of them and the silence all around you.
Yes, the silence up there is magic. At first you hear a beeping sound in your ears. That is from the blood pulsing through you and because there is nothing else. Sometimes you hear the wind and it sounds like a loud concert of an orchestra. Or the passing by insects, that come across like military jets. Its just beautifully silent up there. Then, after midnight, its time to pack up and drive home. On the way back I will stop at my friends bar in Puerto for another drink, filled with happiness and a brain full of sooo many thoughts. If you are a friend, you probably know the spot and I have taken you there. If not, I may still do. Or just ask me for Da Spot next time you go to Tenerife and I’ll brief you.
I don’t hear music when I am up there, but the one hour drive to the spot is full of good tunes and so is Bekim’s bar. I mixed plenty of CD’s for Bekim. Here’s a mix I made this year in a little sentimental Tenerife mood.
