About this blog

Moscow-Blog.com was originally started as a private site to show my friends and colleagues in the West, that Moscow is not such a cold, criminal and poor place, as they think. I am traveling (to Germany and the US) frequently and I am just fed up with stereotypes about Russia. On the other hand many of them are partly true.

Nevertheless this blog soon became popular. I have no idea why, but it seems like its providing some useful information. It received pretty good Google listings and gets more visitors on a daily basis. As of today it has 2000-2500 visitors a day and the number is growing steadily. This site is viewed by Expats, Moscovites and people who are interested in Russia and Moscow or come for a visit. They look for trends in the Russian youth market, tips on where to rent an apartment or where to go out.

This is a lifestyle blog. I am writing it as a diary and a tour guide and I am trying to stay away from politics (for obvious reasons, that stereotype is somehow right, but its complicated). Visit the LINKS section and you’ll find plenty of blogs where political subjects are discussed. Once in a while I will write something about politics, but in general this should be about my life as a foreigner in Russia. It should help you with the daily problems you run into living here and provide useful tips and leads. This blog should also document the development of Moscow. I have seen how much Berlin has changed and Moscow is going through a similar process. Ever since I started to write this blog about 5 years ago many things have changed in Moscow and I am often surprised myself. Use the archive to go back in time and see what I have seen and experienced 5 years ago.

Who am I? Oh well, check the COMMUNITIES section for more info on me. You find plenty of profiles in various online communities. In fact, its hard to keep up with all of them. In short, I am German, born 1971 in Munich. Lived in Germany, later in New York for a few years, then a year on Tenerife/Spain and now since more than 5 years in Moscow. I a partner in an advertising agency here in Moscow. Working hard, but also party now and then (as you can see here). Besides I am running a party series, called Labelfucker with various regular and irregular parties in secret locations and some of Moscows best clubs. What else? I used to be a cop for 8 years (wanted to become a heli-pilot), a pro-snowboarder and also DJed for a while. How long am I staying in Russia? I am often asked this question along with: Where do you go next? Well, I don’t know. I am just going with the flow.

ADVERTISING: Well, I work in advertising, but I also offer ad space on this blog. I am putting a lot of my free time into this hobby of mine, so why not make a buck or two with it? Google Ads pays OK, but its just enough for a night out once every half year. Let me know if you are interested, I’d be happy to offer you some space and a good rate. This is interesting for REAL ESTATE, VISA SERVICES, TRAVEL AGENCIES, CLUBS and BARS, RESTAURANTS and anybody else who is looking for foreign middle to high class (which my readers are, I know many personally through my events). So, do you want to know more about ADVERTISING on this blog? Email me info (at) moscow-blog (dot) com

BARS & CLUBS – Nightlife
Opening a new bar, lounge, cafe, restaurant or club? Want me to announce an event? Do you promote DJs and Parties? Gallery Openings? Corporate Events? I can post an article about your location or your event on this blog. Its FREE, just shoot me a message: info (at) moscow-blog (dot) com.

In case you are upset, because I wrote bad about your place or your event, email me as well. We can talk about it, but usually its for a reason and you should look into it and don’t blame me. I’m doing events myself and I know how hard it is.

THANKS!
I am always grateful for a VIP card of your club or a place on your list to avoid long waiting in the cue. Just put “two-zero” plus … 2 (if possible – I rarely tour alone) and let me know about it :-)

Anything else you have on your mind or you want to say? Either comment or email me info (at) moscow-blog (dot) com. Looking forward to hear from you. Oh and if you see me, just come over and say hello. I want to meet more of my readers. Same if you come to town. I am very stressed with my work (maintaining my blogs and organizing events), but shoot me a mail and if I can, we’ll meet for a beer/coffee/chai or I take you out to some clubs. At least I can give you some recommendations or invite you to one of my parties.

    hi,
are there any good bars with an older crowd? 30-40’s?
    thanks

  • Arsene says:

Hey, I like you blog: balanced, respectful and opinionated at the same time – a rare thing for Moscow!

Try “Petrovic”, its usually an older crowd. Looch is good as well. In general the places I cover are good for 30-40, because I am in that age range as well :-)
Do you know “Silvers”, its a typical Expat hangout and usually there are 40+ aged guys standing at the bar.

Hi Chris, your Moscow-Blog is really great. It’s interesting to get some special insights into this mega city.

Apart from that I like your blog “jetlagger” on Stern-online. Actually I would be interested to read something about changing your life from working as a cop to become an entrepreneur and move to New York and later to Moscow.

Not many people have the courage to do that. How do you managed to do that and were there a lot of obstacles, for example bureaucracy to do that? What was your motivation?

The whole topic would be also good for a book, because so many people would like to change there lifes and go to another country but it’s only a small minority who really follows their dreams.

    Best regards

    Stephan

    Hi Chris,

    Gruss,
    Stefan

    Hello,

I am a Belgian documentary film maker and for my next project I need to contact Moscow citizens. I have a letter (in Russian!) ready for them to send, but I don’t have the slightest clue about their postal area code. Their address is USPENSKAYA VILLAGE 4/2 in Moscow.
Anyone out there who can help me?

    Many many thanks!
    Regards,

    Klara Van Es
