I just had Nikolas here for a visit. He came to see the Moscow fashion week and here is, what the fashion expert from Berlin has to say about it. By the way, last year I went to see the Russian Fashion week (its a week later than the Moscow fashion week), with 2 New Yorkers from the fashion business and they had similar opinions.
Nikolas (here with Susanne) says:
It was a bit disturbing not to get any English (I was not asking for German or Valise) list of exhibitors or scedule or any information about the Moscow Fashion Week last weekend, when I expected it (some international island). But, who did they expect to come, though? Who do they address with this exhibition? Buyers? Press? Well…let´s say it´s still undergound and appeals to a very desperate understanding for the undiscovered, yet, most likely to the style itself as well .
Some of the presented or exposed designers had a quite unhealthy sense for colours and fabrics, some of them even seemed to not sense anything at all anymore….. I was actually expecting nothing, wishing to see some traditional local Eastern influences combinded with copied these-days-favorites-glamour of major brands combined with somehow with an exotic twist and a playful-harsh elegance, but….the computer says: No! The RESUMÈ of the seen gears and ranges, would be a less romantic but similar one, to have been looking deep into my grannie´s relict…with a period in her life, in wich she was a tramp.
Two brands are to mention as slightly remarkable: Erica Zajontz and Megapolis. Erica Zajontz was outstanding and superlativ for classyness, for her consequent black and white sharp-shaped silhouettes and exclusive fabrics. megapolis was cool and relaxed for it´s wearable mix of silver with custo-like prints and graphics on shirts, bags and pants.
The other stuff was just too dumpy (I remeber several furs exposed -experiments with animals are cruel, but experiments with furs are inexcuseable)…like a playground so to innocently entertain the new euphoric ones that coincidentially happen to be rich….recently. the folkloristic you rather see in the manners, but in the styles.
Well, I guess I will keep on observing, because after all this exhibition and these shows certainly belong to the Moscow experience, which in the end and in total was more than a charming one; Go for it and have a look before it´s all gone classy and chic as everywhere else…..*yawn*
