Over Sexed Society

Bravo. Ariadne von Schirach wrote an excellent article in Germanys SPIEGEL Magazine (there is an English translation) about our oversexed society. It’s a MUST READ. I think she really got the point. She focuses on Germany and tells us about her experiences in Berlin, but I can just confirm her views from other cities around the globe. May it be München, Paris, Moscow or New York, its anywhere the same.
We are living in an ever changing (some may say fucked up) society of porn, sex and desire. A society of wankers. Well, maybe it’s a natural development. A few years ago I read an article in the Economist, it was projecting the development of various regions in the world in terms of growth of population. It showed that in most developed industrial countries, the numbers go back (exception USA) while in the 3rd world the numbers will rise. It’s a problem for us, because we have built our social system on the fact that the young pay for the old, but now we are getting more and more seniors and less youngsters who need to pay for them. The system doesn’t work. Well, that’s another topic.
Anyways, this research showed that the birthrates will decline further. That may have various reasons, not enough room to grow, but also the society itself. I guess we don’t have many more threads like hunger, wars, epidemics that were reducing the population naturally. So we take matters in our own hands instead of making babies. Of course that is only a side thought of what Ariadne writes about. Most of it may have to do with our society, marketing, movies and what we expect from our lives.
We all want to be a part of “Sex in the city”, any other TV series or movie. We want to live out these stories by ourselves, not understanding that they may only be reality for a very small amount of people, but be nothing else than fiction for the rest of us. Dreams of some writers, produced by people who think they can make money with it. Its all supported by endless advertising clips suggesting us that we need this and that, but most of all we should be rich and famous. If you are not, you are not happy, they suggest. And again. Its just natural, because nature wants us to find the strongest genes to reproduce ourselves. May it be women or men. But, instead of reaching for the next best, we are reaching for the stars and stay by ourselves. Frustrated, but that is good, for the advertising, because frustration leads to stronger needs and more consume. May it be stuff that makes us look cool and trendy, or creams that make us look younger, or even women (and men) in brothels as Ariadne writes.
