Over Sexed Society

October 31st, 2005 by Two-Zero

Bravo. Ariadne von Schirach wrote an excellent article in Germanys SPIEGEL Magazine (there is an English translation) about our oversexed society. It’s a MUST READ. I think she really got the point. She focuses on Germany and tells us about her experiences in Berlin, but I can just confirm her views from other cities around the globe. May it be München, Paris, Moscow or New York, its anywhere the same.

We are living in an ever changing (some may say fucked up) society of porn, sex and desire. A society of wankers. Well, maybe it’s a natural development. A few years ago I read an article in the Economist, it was projecting the development of various regions in the world in terms of growth of population. It showed that in most developed industrial countries, the numbers go back (exception USA) while in the 3rd world the numbers will rise. It’s a problem for us, because we have built our social system on the fact that the young pay for the old, but now we are getting more and more seniors and less youngsters who need to pay for them. The system doesn’t work. Well, that’s another topic.

Anyways, this research showed that the birthrates will decline further. That may have various reasons, not enough room to grow, but also the society itself. I guess we don’t have many more threads like hunger, wars, epidemics that were reducing the population naturally. So we take matters in our own hands instead of making babies. Of course that is only a side thought of what Ariadne writes about. Most of it may have to do with our society, marketing, movies and what we expect from our lives.

We all want to be a part of “Sex in the city”, any other TV series or movie. We want to live out these stories by ourselves, not understanding that they may only be reality for a very small amount of people, but be nothing else than fiction for the rest of us. Dreams of some writers, produced by people who think they can make money with it. Its all supported by endless advertising clips suggesting us that we need this and that, but most of all we should be rich and famous. If you are not, you are not happy, they suggest. And again. Its just natural, because nature wants us to find the strongest genes to reproduce ourselves. May it be women or men. But, instead of reaching for the next best, we are reaching for the stars and stay by ourselves. Frustrated, but that is good, for the advertising, because frustration leads to stronger needs and more consume. May it be stuff that makes us look cool and trendy, or creams that make us look younger, or even women (and men) in brothels as Ariadne writes.

two-zero in Paris

October 30th, 2005 by Two-Zero

Yeah, Paris is my favorite city in Europe and it just confirmed its status last weekend. There isn’t any other metropolis with this multi-cultural-mix in Europe. Indeed, London can compete with it, but for me its missing the European architecture and flair of Paris.

My Parisian friends complain that it got much more quiet these days and that a few years ago the city was rocking much more. Still, Paris is worth a trip and so thought thousands of tourists I have seen on the streets. It was crazy, but Paris also had a lot to offer. Not only more than 20 C and sun, but lots of street cafe’s where you can drink a cup of French coffee with milk and watch the people walk by on the sidewalk. Or a few good clubs with top level international DJ’s performing. Face control is tight, but here its not about your style and the labels you wear. You can go in Jeans, Sneakers and a Carhatt Sweater. Nobody looks at you in a strange way, like in Moscow.

Its just bad that I had to leave so soon and spend all Saturday in a loooong tiring business meeting, but hey… gotta pay the bills. I’ll be back soon. There are about 8 daily direct flights between Moscow and Paris and you can get a ticket starting from $200 (if you book early).

Here are a few photos from a fabulous fall weekend in Paris. Thanks to Greg (on right) for letting me crash on his couch and greetings to Pierre (left) and Kaori (middle).

Professor OZ spinning in Leto this Saturday

October 28th, 2005 by Two-Zero

Uaaagh -7 C this morning. How did you make it to work? Well here is a tip for the weekend. Professor Oz is a friend of my friend Pierre and we connected last week because he is coming to town to spin and promote his new mini LP with Microlife. I was looking forward to meet him. He stayed in Vienna for a while, worked with Kruder & Dorfmeister and we may even have some common friends in Vienna (couldn’t figure that out yet). Then Wednesday night my telephone rings and my client from New York orders me to a meeting in Paris on Saturday. Olivier (Professor Oz) is landing in Moscow tonight, just when I have to leave. What a coincidence, hm? Anyways, while I am enjoying 20 C in Paris you should go see him at Book Cafe for his LP Promo Gig tonight or at Leto tomorrow. He is really good. Check it out and tomorrow you’ll find also KLF at Leto. Have a nice weekend. Will show you some materials from Professor Oz’s gig and Paris right after.
