GRU spying on German Bundeswehr

From Spiegel Online Apr.22, 2005:

GERMAN-RUSSIAN SPY STORIES

From Russia with Love

By Holger Stark

For years, a Russian consul spied on the German army. Officials got wind of it and tried to turn him into a Russian defector. As the situation began to blow up in their faces, German officials hustled to end the matter discreetly – so as not to endanger the current German-Russian love affair.

The small baroque town of Amorbach in the Odenwald, south of Frankfurt, offered a perfect backdrop for the unique showdown last November. Just like in the good-old-days of the Cold War, German special agents tiptoed about the ruins of a medieval Benedictine convent and followed a nondescript man in his mid-forties who was obviously waiting for someone at a restaurant in this 4,220-person town.

Under the agents’ scrutiny, a member of the German army entered the restaurant. He was carrying classified documents with him that contained information about telecommunications and arms technology. As so often occurred in the past, the secret documents quietly changed hands. The man receiving them spoke German with a thick Russian accent and paid a hefty sum. His pockets full and the transaction completed, the the army officer got up and left the restaurant. The other man was left to pay the bill. As soon as he did, he was captured by the waiting German agents. When they arrested him, the agents discovered that the criminal turned out to be a Russian diplomat.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Premier last night in London

So, last night they actually had their premier. As I reported last year, yes it’s 1 year ago (Uff!), Disney bought the film rights on Douglas Adams famous book and made a movie out of it.

The material is great, my recommended read for you, but it can’t be made into a movie, because it lives from your imagination (more than any oter book) and not Disney’s or some directors.

And Mos Def being a black NY style Ford Prefect? Well, read here what I and others had to say about it last year. Make sure to read the comments.

I guess I’ll get the flick on Garbushka market, where the screener will soon be out on DVD and than I’ll let you know what I think about it.

MYLO cancels gigs – Notebook stolen

I just got an email from MYLO’s record label. He canceled all April dates because his notebook got stolen and he had all his sounds on it. Man, I hope he had a backup, but its doesn’t look like it. And so we will soon hear some new DJ playing with MYLO’s samples.

MYLO also canceled his two gigs in Berlin and Munich. He confirmed his apprearance at the Mayday festival and two more June gigs:

11 Juni 3001 Düsseldorf – 3001
13 Juni Elektronic Beats Festival Köln

MYLO just released his new album: “Destroy Rock’n’Roll”.

I guess we should learn out of this and BACK-UP our data NOW! Keep the DVD’s in a secure place (not in your office or studio), like my friend who lost all his backups in the WTC on 9/11.

Germania (www.gexx.de)
122 EUR Einfach-Flug Deutschland -> Moskau

Sibir (www.s7.ru/de/index.html)
ab 96 EUR (-250 EUR) Einfach-Flug Deutschland -> Moskau
